Screen comparison vs ASF
Screen comparison vs SHS
J-G screens were resized to ASF resolution for the first screen comparison. As you can see, higher resolution HDTV rip doesn't necessarily mean that it has more details than good old DVD rip. Besides you can notice that the DVD version is not as heavily sharpened, for better or worse. (The video is unfiltered.)
Also, I've switched to 10-bit x264 starting from this release.
I was wondering if I should get this. Saw the pics... I'm getting this. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAlso, allow me to be the first to congratulate you, and welcome you to the 10-bin encoder camp.
Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy your stay... and prepare for the relative flood of naysayers that will come here and bitch in 4, 3, 2, 1....
A true fan whose hardware doesn't support this encode. Thanks until now, and farewell.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear about 10-bit x264. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for this, thank you.
ReplyDeleteWill you marry me?
ReplyDeleteHmm, looks like maybe I should finally update CCCP so I can hopefully play 10-bit properly. I mainly hadn't done it before since most 10-bit releases have been 720p and above, which I normally don't get if I can avoid it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for picking up this project while also working on Operation Sanctuary.Just wondering was DCII SS scrapped from the projects list?
ReplyDeleteYes, DCII will be the last Da Capo series from me.
ReplyDeleteHow come? Is someone else releasing it?
DeleteI don't know, maybe someone will. Or maybe I'll still do DCIISS later, just not sure when. Though the video in the ASF 720p version is quite good, the dialogue is already softsubbed, and there is no better translation available, so I don't see much benefit in re-releasing it at the moment. I can make the raws if someone's interested.
DeleteActually, I've stopped being lazy and made some screen comps with the second season DVD:
Deletepart 1
part 2
Based on these, and since there's no any content difference, I'd just keep ASF for the 2nd season.
Mmm on this picture ASF has clearly more details on trees and bushes - and these details didn't become more visible from sharpening, they are just missing (?) in your rip?
ReplyDeleteActually I see quite the opposite, the DVD rip has visible (albeit blurry) leaves and flowers on the trees and bushes in places where ASF has just gradient change of color. So not sure what you're talking about. Maybe it depends on brightness/contrast settings of the screen.
DeleteThe place on that pic where ASF might have more detail is the left-most beam of the house, where ASF has some kind of vertical line in the middle which I can't see in the DVD rip. On the other hand, the beam itself is kind of warped horizontally in the ASF rip (which looks like an artifact) while it is straight vertical in my rip. *shrug*
