Yakitate!! Japan 01-69/69
This is one of those shows which were taking space on my HDD for several years (ISOs are 117Gb), while I was thinking if I should work on them or not. Now that I know how to OCR color Impress BT font with pretty good quality (using VideoSubFinder + FineReader with custom pattern), I think I can handle it.
Video: x264 (8-bit) 712x480 4:3 VFR crf 16 (unfiltered)
Audio: Japanese AAC 2.0 ~320kbit/s (-q 0.85)
Subtitles: English softsubs, translation by Anime-Empire
Here's screen comparison with Anime-Empire hardsub.

Just curious, why don't you use filtering?

Wow, the quality improvement is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I thank you greatly for doing this. It's an amazing series that has long needed this love.
ReplyDeletesugoi. being a large run, is this a 3 month project or a 12 month+ one?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Let's say... 6 months.
Deletemotto sugoi. ocr is the devil. ganbatte.
DeleteThanks a lot for this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the release :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your hard work. This show needs the love.
ReplyDeleteWow thanks. Will you be doing a batch release once you're done perhaps? Or should we start grabbing this now?
ReplyDeleteThe batch is likely to appear on bakabt once the show is complete.
DeleteThank you! :D I love Yakitate!! Japan and the screencap comparison was beautiful.
DeleteThis show was a ray of light in a dark time of my life. It's awesome to see such an important show to me get the love it deserves. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteyou missed some combings.
ReplyDeletei suggest you up the pp on tfm.
or use some other post processing like nnedi3
Timestamp would be helpful.
DeleteHow did you handle the multitude of notes that A-E did for this series? Jpeg notes at the end of the video, \an8, or try to duplicate the effect of A-E?
ReplyDelete\an8, like this.
DeleteThank you for this.
ReplyDeleteBut are you doing the karaoke for this also?
There is karaoke but if you wanted the bread effect that A-E did, that isn't gonna be in there because it's softsubs and you probably have to ask them for their scripts and such.
DeleteThanks for this.
ReplyDeleteAny chance for encode this:
ReplyDeleteNodame Cantabile
Nodame Cantabile Paris Chapter
Nodame Cantabile Finale
Hungry Heart: Wild Striker
Please! Please!
Hungry Heart: doesn't look like my type of show
DeleteNodame Cantabile: a (distant) possibility, I even have the DVDs but it looks like a lot of work
For Nodame Cantabile, I imagine it's an "HDTV > DVD" situation, at least for the 2nd and 3rd seasons.
DeleteI have the C1 scripts for Nodame S1, if that helps. As the series progressed, the use of AFX for signs lessened, so there are sign scripts (or signs embedded in the main scripts) from about ep6 on. C1 hardsubbed, so the complexity of the signs (and the karas) was not an issue.
DeleteActually, I felt betrayed when I tried the A-E release in the past. And now the bread's all here. I'm looking forward for this.
ReplyDeleteBtw Yakitate!! Japan show hasnt 10- bit encode. It's just only High@L4.0
ReplyDeleteYeah, you're right. It's because the file "x264_2164_32_10bit_v2.7z" which I grabbed from JEEB's site on Feb 22 and used to encode this show contains 8bit executable inside, exactly the same executable as in "x264_2164_32_v2.7z". Well, doesn't matter, 8bit it is then :)
DeleteEpic! Thanks for doing this show :)
ReplyDeleteGreat, thank you
ReplyDeleteThere is another show i'd like to see a dvdrip for it which is Mahoraba: Heartful Days.
If you can give me some tips to how rip the hardsubs I'd love to do it my self, there is already Good DVD raws floating around.
Thanks
You can start with this guide written by Zalis. I'll probably write an addendum later explaining how to OCR using VideoSubFinder.
DeleteI've seen this guide before and tried them, but the process takes a lot of work and effort to correct the result sub.
DeleteI wanted tips about "VideoSubFinder + FineReader with custom pattern" as you mentioned in the description since it seems produce a higher quality subs with less errors.
Just tips no need for full guide, i can figure the minor details.
Re: Mahoraba -- I was actually looking into the show a little bit and doing a transcription test on ep 10. (Note that the first 9 eps were done by Retrofit, but I'd suggest retiming/restyling those for consistency.) If you go the transcription route, the Russian subs are virtually identical in timing and line distribution to F-B, so they'd be quite easy to transcribe. Either way, if it means a new entrant in the hardsub re-release scene, I'd be glad to lend a hand. I'll post what I did with 10 at some point.
DeleteAnd even I could use a guide for OCR with VSF+FR, as I swear all this transcription is going to give me carpal tunnel syndrome... :(
Here it is.
DeleteNM, found this guide, http://subs.com.ru/page.php?al=videosubfinder_hardsub
ReplyDeleteJust a quick question, Do you suggest a different settings from the default ones for VideoSubFinder or is it per video?
I use default settings, except that I normally uncheck "Using fast version (partially reduced)", though I'm not sure it makes any difference. Keep in mind that after OCR you still need to open the subs in Aegisub with the original video, set vertical margin to 90 and go line-by-line comparing the text and fixing OCR errors. This takes about 10 minutes per episode. If it takes more, it means OCR is not effective and it might make sense to switch to the transcription method for this show. Transcription is nothing to be afraid of either, if you type fast it will take about 30 minutes per episode. I prefer OCR mainly because it is less tiring on the eyes.
Deletei'm new here. i would like to know whether you have any plans to rip Groove Adventure Rave?
ReplyDeleteCont.:
DeleteThe Law of Ueki
Yu-Gi-Oh
Rental Magica
Pandora Hearts
Ghost Hunt
Death Note
D.Gray-man
Beelzebub
Naruto
Bleach
Chrome Shelled Regios
just see which that you are interested to rip... ^.^
Already ripped by other groups.
DeleteUnless you are talking about using fansubs for Naruto and Bleach to put on a better source, no one is going to take on a job of doing hundreds of epsiodes for one series especially a one-man group.
DeleteI tried doing OCR for Mahoraba with the latest ABBYY FineReader and i can say the result is about 80-90% accurate.
ReplyDeleteHere are first three episodes after quick fix: http://www.mediafire.com/?xp6k4u1cawoavac
Also I found out that the font used in this series is Marker-Felt, So is there a way to make the OCR more accurate with this font?
btw, if you are interested in doing this series i can OCR the remaining episodes(as above) and you can do the rest.
There's no need to OCR early episodes of the show, as Retrofit's already released them. Scripts are here, along with the transcription I did for 10. But if you wanted to OCR 11-26, I'd say there's a fair chance either Kaishakunin or I will release the series.
DeleteRe: anon request list above:
D.Gray-Man only has DVD-rips for eps 001-051 because that's all that was released in R1. 052-103 only have TV-rips, with 52-83 only in hardsub/.avi. For now ;)
Take .ass files instead of .srt. VSF always produces both, but .ass is better because .srt becomes a big mess in places with overlapping lines or signs.
DeleteAlso, those files still have quite a lot of OCR errors left; some more fixing would be required for them to be actually useful.
OMG I am so looking forward to this! By far one of my favorite animes, and your work looks amazing! So much better quality. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI tried a few episodes last week, and it made me happy. I'm glad that this show finally is being re-released on better format and quality. I always believed that Yakitate Japan deserved more love than that of A-E Hardsubs.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward for the batch.
keep up the good work!!
ReplyDeletelike this!!
Can you encode Kyo Kara Moah?
ReplyDeleteMost releases are TVrips with inferior quality.
Great work!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to further episodes!
Thanks for the better quality subbing! If you need A-E subs, I happen to have all 69 episodes. As a side note: have you considered using 10-bit color encoding?
ReplyDeleteA-E subs would definitely be helpful. Please contact me by email kaishakunin.sama AT gmail.com
DeleteIt would be a great help if you have the scripts. But if it's just the video, anyone can get it in many ways. (xdcc/torrent) and it's back to square one since it needs OCR.
DeleteThis show deserves a more modern release. If you complete this you will be my personal hero. Best of luck to you!
ReplyDeletecan you encode this anime :
ReplyDeleteAoki densetsu SHOOT! ep 1-29 (or until end)
whistle
upps thanks before, if you can...
DeleteWould it be possible for you do just the OPs and EDs of Stellvia of the Universe by RiceBox? I have the sub files for all 26 episodes [re-created by Anonymous], but would really like the original OP and ED subs because they look fantastic. Batch file can be found on BakaBT.
ReplyDeleteJust the ass. files would be fine, I can re-edit and re-time them myself.
DeleteMany thanks for doing this show, I will seed this as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteExcited. This was one of the first anime that I really liked.
ReplyDeleteNice work. Just one thing: for some episodes, the word "it" is mistakenly replaced by the word "if". Not too big a deal, but if would be better if this was avoided in future episodes (see what I mean?).
ReplyDeleteWanna proofread/QC the subs for future or past episodes? Contact me via email, I'd appreciate such help.
DeleteDo you have a proof reader? I don't see any V2s and a few typos here and there. (the angled text for Suwabara's magazine article says "break-making")
DeleteNo V2s are planned as of now. If you want to help by proofreading, please contact me on Rizon #jumonji-giri (nick TtG). You can create a list of errors and we'll see if they are worthy of V2s. The scripts can be extracted from mkvs or I can send them to you.
DeleteI can proofread for you. I'll just compile them then send them to you, i'll contact you on IRC when I'm done writing them all down. -maskeight on IRC
Deletemany thanks, I just got ep 1 yesterday and I like it even though I didn't complete it yet :D .. everything is perfect so I'll get it from now on :D
ReplyDeleteYakitate Japan is one of my favorites, and being able to disable the subtitles lets me enjoy them without the intrusive hardsubs. I also appreciate the improved quality :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for continuing to release episodes :)
i cant find episode 13 on tokyotosho...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&tid=341594
Deletefor any problem, use the xdcc bot :D
ReplyDeletePlease, oh please seed episode 5? I will love you forever.
ReplyDeleteCurrently stuck at 0%
I never stopped seeding episode 5 and am still seeding it now.
DeleteThree episodes at once. What a pleasant surprise. I've never seen Yakitate before and I'm thoroughly enjoying it (and your higher quality encode for that matter). Thanks man.
ReplyDeleteNow that you're at this point, I'll get to those next previews soon here.
ReplyDeleteFor episode 38-46, did you exclude [A-E] in the filenames on purpose or did you just forget?
ReplyDeleteRemoved per request from getfresh.
DeleteOh my, you are nearly finished! Great work man, I salute you :)
ReplyDeleteneed seeder please for episode 1
ReplyDeletebatch torrent plz!
ReplyDeleteI imagine there'll be one after all episodes are released, likely on BakaBT and possibly elsewhere.
DeleteI've finished rewatching every bit of what's been released. I meant to stop after 52 until you finished but I couldn't help myself, and now I've reached the end of what's available!
ReplyDeleteMoar breadime plz! :O
how to download?
ReplyDeletepls tell me XD sorry new to this :D
Check the "Release Status" tab at the top of the blog.
ReplyDeleteHell yeah, only 5 episodes to go. Keep at it man.
ReplyDeleteGood job! Great anime, one of the funniest I've ever seen. Excellent quality of work.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
So I noticed that you released a v2 of episode 3. What were the changes? Can you make a patch file (xdelta)?
ReplyDeleteJust some typos in the subs (break-making -> bread-making). Xdelta: http://www.mediafire.com/?hwbgt2gw858863w
Deletehow to use the patch ??? please explain that...thanks before
Deletecould you make folder full patch v2 for Ep 03 and how to use the patch in .txt ? because i'm already have yakitate japan ep 03.
Deletethanks for re-release this anime
Please refer to this guide for instructions on how to use the patch.
DeleteThanks for the quality releases :D
ReplyDeleteYou will release a batch right??
ReplyDeleteHi bro, it's good english sub... and i wanna make a vietnamese version based on your sub... would you permit me?? Please reply soon :)
ReplyDeletecan i request ??? just suggesting maybe you wanna take this anime in the next project ..
ReplyDeleteHikaru no GO
Hungry Heart: Wild Striker
Ninku
Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo (1997)
Shaman King
Whistle !
Hopefully...
thanks
Ninku and Kindaichi Shounen were never completely subbed. One can't make a re-release out of translations that don't exist.
DeleteSomeone is planning a dual-audio/softsub version of Hikaru no Go with the R1 subs.
thanks for replying my request .....:)
Deletethanks a lot . you are the best
ReplyDeletei hope see this animes in the next project :
Konjiki no Gash Bell!!
Whistle!
Tenshi na Konamaiki
Hungry Heart: Wild Striker
thanks again
How long will it take you to add a BakaBT torrent for this.Actually, I was thinking of using your releases for my Animax Dub releases.
ReplyDeleteANIMAX DUB RELEASE!!! WHERE??
DeleteGood question. I have no idea where to get them.
Deletethanks man you are the best..
ReplyDeletebut can you tell me how to download..
i find for softsub yakitate..
69/69, huh?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing, and thanks for the bread!
Thank J-G. Amazing job indeed.
ReplyDeleteOtsukaresama :)
Thanks for completing the DVD version of this wonderful anime.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible for you to upload episodes from 65 upwards to some file sharing site? The torrents are pretty much dead (I'm getting 1kb/s download on my seedbox) on nyaa and bakabt.me is taking their sweet time in approving shows at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'll just seed them on nyaa for some time.
DeleteThis just got approved on bakabt
Deletehow come it not downloading now? it was yesterday when i got it off bakabt but now its just dead?
ReplyDeleteGreat quality! Thank u so much :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's not downloading... i try downloading 3 episodes at a time then when i was about to get eps 45-47, nothings happening anymore. D:
