Futakoi 01-02/13

Video: x264 712x476 4:3 23.976fps 1186-1450kbps (crf 14)
Audio: Japanese AC3 2.0 448kbps
Two subtitle tracks:
1. English translation by Ishin (.ass)
2. English translation by AnimeYuki (.ass)

If you're going to watch this, use default subtitles (Ishin), because they are better. AnY track is included for the sake of completeness.

The video comes from R2J DVDs. Their video quality is not ideal (one can notice some halos, aliasing, etc), but they still look much better than TV rips. After some experimentation I decided to go the easy route again and not apply any filtering (except of IVTC).

Screen comparisons:
1. AnimeYuki TV rip vs this re-release
2. Ishin TV rip vs this re-release

  1. Oh Man.. The quality is really good that makes you cry that you had to watch the TV rips, I noticed many details were lost in the TV rips..
Thanks a lot for the hard works on releasing this cool project.

  4. This is very nice, thanks for doing this series!
Screen #3 looks ultra ugly in comparison pictures that you posted, though.. is that IVTC fail for that frame?

  5. @Anon: That screen just suffers from the artifacts I mentioned. I don't think it's IVTC fail, because non-interlaced frames from the source look similar even before applying IVTC.

Here are two neighbor frames from the source DVD:
    (1) non-interlaced
    (2) interlaced

IVTC just changes (2) to look like (1) but it can't improve (1).

Now, the opinion poll! I can apply some filters, for example like this. Is it worth it? Which of two versions would you prefer?

  6. No, that makes It loose sharpness and make the video look blurry
