  1. Thank you so much
Wanna do some good PPD dvdrip? Instead of awful [Arigatou] one.

  2. Maxal, you must've missed his release criteria:

"2. Do not have an R1 DVD available (or any other DVD with English subs)."

What's so "awful" about Arigatou's, anyway?

Nope, I seen it, but want to give a try anyway.

Horrible video quality, horrible dvdstyle subs. gg-Oyasumi was so much better both in style and in translation quality. But oyasumi subs is hardsubbed. Well, too bad for me I guess.

  4. I don't know about Arigatou's video quality, but it's only subjective opinion that DVD-style subs are "horrible." They use simple, easy-to-read fonts, and colors that don't blend in with backgrounds -- the very basics of good styling. If you've every tried to OCR DVD subs before, you'd know that the PPD ones would be a nightmare to work with. .srt would be an absolute disaster, and the amount of typesetting required would be beyond what most groups could handle. RaX had a go at it, but they didn't even include the chalkboard/background stuff, let alone the extra pop-up notes that the DVDs have.

So long story short, using the DVD subs "as-is" is the only sane and time-effective method for ripping PPD R1DVD. And from what I've seen, the Oyasumi/gg subs only have "better translation quality" on purely preferential things like honorifics and name orders. I have to trust the pros more on difficult/high-speed dialogue.
